The what and why of Skills Foresight
Skills Foresight supports decisions in areas which involve long lead times, such as education & training and long-term labour market planning. Skills Foresight has been defined as a 'systematic, participatory, future intelligence gathering and medium-to-long-term vision-building process aimed at present-day decisions and mobilising joint actions' ('A practical guide to regional foresight', Brussels: the FOREN network, European Commission, JRC-IPTS et al., 2001). In simple terms, it is a tool which supports the design and implementation of policies with a medium- to long-term perspective.
