Examples: Case studies from national online career services

This sub-chapter provides five examples of national guidance systems or innovative cases on the use of technology in widening access to labour market information and career services. The cases represent ETF Partner Countries and EU Member States.

A compendium of detailed descriptions of national online career services and tools is available in the Cedefop Handbook of ICT practices for guidance and career development (2018). In many countries, the use of ICT in guidance has emerged with the aim of supporting traditional career services by publishing institutional, local or national educational and occupational information. This is still the most common use of ICT in guidance.

The national online tools and approaches are briefly presented as examples of the functionalities of the services; e.g., whether the technology is used for:

  • delivering career information
  • a means of one-to-one communication
  • a means of group communication
  • a collaborative space for career information, or
  • a strategic development of national career services.
