I see I’m not the only one talking about PISA. OECD does like to make a noise about it. They have just announced the results from their latest PISA survey. PISA means Programme for International Student Assessment.
OECD conducts a survey every three years, which compares reading, mathematics and science performance of 15-year-old pupils around the world.
Over half a million 15-year-olds from 79 countries took part in PISA in 2018. This survey focussed on reading, though maths, science...
I think this is a valid argument. On the measurement side, I think PISA goes beyond assessing whether students can reproduce what they have learned in school but counts what counts: thinking across the boundaries of subject-matter disciplines and demonstrating their effective learning strategies. Is this sufficient for engaging in learning later on in life? I believe it is essential. PISA results also show that education systems can pursue excellence and equity at the same time and that high-quality and equitable education is an attainable goal. This is where they can make a difference: helping policy makers in our partner countries to make more informed decisions.
