This New Learning Club  will focus on the adoption of AI solutions by educators and teachers, to try answering some of the hot questions that require attention. Participants will debate on the ways to integrate AI tools safely and effectively in teaching settings, to implement software in school environments and deal with e.g., correct and consistent assessment of students’ work, etc. The Club will allow to share inputs, guidelines, practices, points of view on the topic, as well as to exchange helpful tools to be possibly adopted in teaching and learning.

Leaders

Dr. Işıl Boy Ergül is the founder of ETZ (Educational Technology Summit in Turkey), TeacherX (an online teacher training platform), and CertifiX (a Blockchain-based certificate management system). She has served as a lecturer in the Department of Foreign Languages Education and as an advisor to the vice president at Yıldız Technical University in Turkey. Additionally, she has worked as a teacher trainer for Pilgrims Teacher Training in the United Kingdom, conducting educational technology courses. Since 2010, she has led various ICT training courses across Turkey, Europe, and the Middle East. In 2015, she was selected as an Apple Distinguished Educator. Boy-Ergül holds a B.A. in TEFL from Istanbul University, an M.A. in Educational Technology and TESOL from the University of Manchester, and a PhD in Educational Technology from Bahçeşehir University, where she also taught postgraduate courses.

Assoc. Prof. Şahin İdil received his PhD degree in science education from Hacettepe University. He is currently working at the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK). His research interests focus on public engagement with STEAM Education, digitalisation in education and the use of AI in education. He is also editor-in-chief of the Journal of STEAM Education. He pays very much attention to AI based studies within this journal. He gives lectures on some subjects such as Science Education, Project Design in Education at several universities. He has involved in several international projects under some programmes such as Erasmus Plus, FP7 and tries to reveal the importance of  the use of AI in education through these projects.

Dr. Selçuk Yusuf Arslan, a computer science teacher, completed his PhD in Educational Leadership programme at Hacettepe University. His doctoral thesis focused on STEM policies in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals. In 2023, Dr. Arslan was selected as the world winner in the Environmental Protection and Moral Leadership category in the JCI Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World programme, one of the most prestigious awarding programmes in the world, by presenting a teaching model integrating coding teaching and climate education with an interdisciplinary approach. Arslan is also a finalist of the Global Teacher Prize, a winner of the UNESCO and ETF Green Skills Awards, and the winner of the Cambridge University Press Dedicated Teacher Award in Europe. Arslan focuses on developing girls' coding skills and contributing to global goals through STEM approach and technology. Arslan, who has received numerous international awards with his students, continues to teach with great passion.

Explore the tool collectively developed by the Club: Unlocking AI in education: A Teacher's Guide to AI Literacy

This guide, based on six months of work, helps educators use generative AI tools to create new learning opportunities. It collects a set of resources and tools to get started with the use of generative AI tools in everyday teacher’s tasks to improve engagement and/or proficiency in teaching and learning. This open crowdsourced guide is a collective endeavor of the ETF club ‘Teaching with AI’.
