On Wednesday 7th June a second training session was held for managers and experts from schools from Albania, Finland, Latvia and Italy that have expressed interest in participating in  the pilot of Europe’s new International Assessment Tool for Centres of Vocational Excellence.

The training explained how the ISATCOVE tool will help VET Providers to evaluate their own level of development in relation to an international framework that draws upon the activities and achievements of Centres of Vocational Excellence.  Centres will be able share good practices and make comparisons against chosen types of providers.  They will be able to set targets and monitor their progress.

Schools and centres can self-assess either as individual centres or as clusters – in which case they will share their self-assessments with one another.

The pilot schools and centres will be supported by coaches who will accompany them – helping them to prepare for the assessment and carry it out.  The pilot itself will take place in the autumn.  Further training will take place on October 4th.

The European Commission has also commissioned a proposal for labels that will recognise vocational excellence.  It is currently proposed that centres and schools that carry out a self-assessment will be able to apply for label either to demonstrate commitment to excellence or, at a higher level, to demonstrate the achievement of excellence.
