Vocational Excellence Resource Type

ECoVEM project brings together VET centres, polytechnics, industrial associations, social partners to establish European Cooperation platform of Vocational Excellence in Microelectronics to tackle the challenges of: digitalisation, artificial intelligence, green technologies, gender equality and technology, integration of migrants

ECoVEM builds on and complements the strengths of national VET systems in countries with more advanced VET and supports the not so advanced regions to achieve VET excellence. ECoVEM implements innovative instructional approaches towards life-long capacity to self-regulate learning, hard skills and soft skills using the ecosystems-based theoretical models and performance support systems. For systems engineers today, a good practical knowledge in electronics is inevitable to ensure good project interoperability.

The course will cover important skills in electronics using a hands-on approach. In addition, specific space-related aspects of electronics are covered. The module gives the student the basics of space communication and remote sensing with spacecraft. Several sensors and instruments in different wavelengths are highlighted in technical detail.

This course covers general topics in mission design and small satellites concepts. The course represents a combination of theoretical knowledge provided in lectures and practical exercises in designing, manufacturing, and testing based on the usage of established infrastructure supported by technology transfer for the participants. This course will provide an overview of the key concepts and techniques involved in the design, manufacturing, and testing of microelectronic devices and circuits for space applications. The course will cover the basics of microelectronic design, including circuit design, semiconductor materials, and device physics. It will also focus on the unique requirements of microelectronics for space applications, such as radiation hardening, temperature and voltage variations, and space qualification.
