The Challenge Addressed
Our project is an interactive, museum-based quiz designed to help learners of all ages explore history, architecture, and cultural identity through active participation.
Hosted inside Effendi Villa — a 19th-century heritage house — the quiz transforms a traditional guided tour into a multi-layered learning experience that blends storytelling, critical thinking, and collaborative problem-solving.
Participants move through historical rooms, discovering clues hidden in artifacts, architectural details inspired by Greek mythology, and family archives preserved by descendants.
The quiz format encourages them to interpret evidence, make connections between personal stories and broader historical events, and collaboratively solve challenges.
Why the Practice is Innovative
By merging cultural heritage with interactive game-based learning, the project creates an engaging environment where history becomes tangible and learning becomes exploratory, social, and meaningful.
Type of Integration and Key Competences
The activity integrates several key competences for lifelong learning:
- Citizenship competence: Learners explore local history, migration, heritage preservation, and the impact of global events on community life.
- Personal and social learning: The quiz builds teamwork, empathy, emotional awareness, and communication as participants work together to reconstruct family stories.
- Digital competence: Short archival video fragments support multimodal learning.
- STEAM competence: Architectural observation tasks introduce elements of art, engineering, and geometry (e.g., identifying structural principles behind arches and ornamental design).
- Entrepreneurial competence: Learners practice initiative, creativity, and problem-solving as they choose strategies to “unlock” each stage of the quiz.
Role of the Teacher/Trainer
The quiz format encourages participants to interpret evidence, make connections between personal stories and broader historical events, and collaboratively solve challenges.

Impact of the Practice
The project creates an engaging environment where history becomes tangible and learning becomes exploratory, social, and meaningful.
It is accessible to mixed-age groups, adaptable for school programs, and designed to foster curiosity and lifelong learning beyond the museum walls.
Potential for Replication
The practice is adaptable for school programs and accessible to mixed-age groups.
Its combination of cultural heritage, interactive learning and game-based learning can support learning beyond the museum walls.
