This webinar presented new research and innovative methodology used to quantify and analyse the scope of platform work, particularly how it affects skills development and demand.
The first session – Framing the discussion on platform work and evidence from transition countries – included presentations on:
- the ETF’s recent research on new forms of work in the Eastern Partnership countries and the Western Balkans;
- Gigmetar, an online tool developed by the Public Policy Research Centre in Serbia to describe the geography of digital work in Serbia and South East Europe;
- the profile of platform workers and their working conditions in Georgia.
The second session – Lessons from Indian platform workers and benefits of platform work data – included insights drawn from:
- the National Institution for Transforming India’s latest study on India’s booming gig and platform economy;
- a recent working paper examining how data from online platforms can be used to develop useful foresight about skill requirements and training needs.
