The College of Machinery and Irrigation (VCMI) is a public vocational education and training (VET) institution in Viet Nam operating under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment. With a main campus in Dong Nai and additional campuses and branches in Dong Nai, Ho Chi Minh City and Quang Ngai Province, the College has an extensive training infrastructure and an annual enrolment of more than 6,000 students. It was recognised as a high-quality college by the Ministry of Education and Training in March 2026 and has received support from Germany to develop into a Centre of Excellence for Green TVET, serving Viet Nam and neighbouring countries. VCMI provides training in technical and vocational fields, with programmes aligned with international standards, including German and Australian standards. Its facilities and equipment have been modernised in line with German standards, and many lecturers have undertaken professional training in Germany, Australia, Japan, Denmark and other countries. The College maintains a Quality Management System certified to ISO 9001:2015 and an Environmental Management System certified to ISO 14001:2015. It has also completed accreditation of seven training programmes and was included in the 2026 UI GreenMetric Green Campus Rankings, placing 898th worldwide and seventh in Viet Nam.

VCMI maintains extensive international cooperation and industry partnerships, working with organisations including the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the Australia–Vietnam Human Resource Development Partnership (Aus4Skills) and the Confederation of Danish Industry (DI). It is a member of the European Association of Institutes for Vocational Training (EVBB), SEAMEO TED and vocational advisory networks in the logistics sector. The College has established strategic partnerships with more than 60 companies and enterprises, supported by vocational advisory boards in mechanical engineering and electrical and electronics, as well as a developing partnership with the Dong Nai Wood and Handicraft Association. These partnerships contribute to occupational standards, curriculum design, teaching materials, teacher and enterprise staff development, internships, cooperative training, assessment, career guidance and graduate employment. Cooperation with Daikin also supports the transfer of industry-based training programmes, instructor development and technical training for students and enterprise staff. Through these arrangements, VCMI strengthens the alignment between vocational provision and industry requirements and promotes work-based learning and practice-oriented training.

Digital and green transformation are central to the College’s development. Its digital infrastructure includes campus-wide Wi-Fi covering all buildings, six physical servers and additional outsourced server capacity supporting up to 5,000 simultaneous LMS users. A dedicated e-learning room and digital content production studio support the development of online learning materials, and all teachers have received training in digital competences and digital content development. More than 90% of classrooms and practical workshops are equipped with interactive whiteboards, televisions or projectors, while all teachers and students have access to the digital library. Three platforms support training management and delivery: the Smart EOS Digital Management Platform, the Learning Management System (LMS) and the Open Vocational Education and Training Resources (OVETR) Platform. Green skills are integrated throughout the curriculum: all programmes include basic environmental protection and resource-efficiency content, while 80% incorporate occupation-specific green elements. With GIZ support, VCMI has developed two green vocational training programmes based on German standards, recognised by HWK Aachen as equivalent to German vocational training standards. Cooperation with DI also supports occupational standards, curriculum development and instructor training in wind power operation and maintenance. These initiatives reinforce VCMI’s role in advancing high-quality, digitally enabled and environmentally sustainable vocational education.
