Areas of excellence

Centro San Viator was founded in 1953 in the Enkarterri region, in the province of Biscay. Located in a mountainous area with a challenging terrain, the region has historically faced mobility and connectivity difficulties that have limited opportunities for its residents. In this context, Centro San Viator has grown as a key educational and social agent, committed to expanding access to quality learning and fostering equal opportunities. Today, the centre offers a comprehensive educational pathway—Kindergarten, Primary Education, Compulsory Secondary Education, High School, VET, and HiVET—serving more than 1,000 students and supported by a team of around 110 dedicated professionals. We are a centre with a strong social vocation and a clear priority: supporting people with fewer opportunities or at risk of exclusion. Each year, we welcome approximately 150 students who have dropped out of other schools or face early school-leaving risks, providing them with personalised guidance, tailored training programmes, and inclusive learning environments that promote their reintegration and long-term success. Over the past 14 years, Centro San Viator has developed a wide range of European projects, gaining solid experience in international cooperation and innovation. For the last 12 consecutive years, San Viator has led at least one EU-funded project. We are currently coordinating a KA2 and a KA1, and participating as partners in KA2, KA3, a CoVE (focused on social inclusion), and a pilot Capacity Building project with Africa. This trajectory reflects our capacity to manage complex initiatives and collaborate effectively within multicultural and multidisciplinary networks. As an inclusive school, we ensure that every person—regardless of origin, gender or intellectual ability—has the opportunity to reach their full potential. Although we are still advancing in the field of microcredentials, our VET and lifelong learning structures are evolving to integrate them effectively. We already have practical experience with Professional Certificates based on Europass, which share many characteristics with microcredentials. These have been particularly valuable in training young people with intellectual disabilities, placing special emphasis on soft-skills development—an area where our expertise in social innovation is especially strong. From a digital perspective, our centre began its transformation early: by 2018, most of our teaching and learning processes were already digitalised. Since then, we have further strengthened our digital capacity, and Google Classroom has become a widely used and effective tool across the entire teaching staff. While we acknowledge that we are still progressing toward full maturity in all technical innovation areas, we have achieved a solid foundation and a clear strategic direction.
