In the dynamic evolution of vocational–technical education in the Republic of Moldova, the Public Institution Center of Excellence in Transport stands as a landmark institution with a legacy spanning almost eight decades.  The origins of the institution date back to the post-war reconstruction period. Pursuant to Government Directive no. 11989 P of August 12, 1945, and Order no. 13 of January 12, 1946 of the People’s Commissariat for Transport of the Moldavian SSR, the Road and Automotive Technical School was established and began its activity on February 1, 1946.  Initially, the institution operated with a modest structure — one hundred students in four study groups — training specialists in two fields:  Technical Maintenance and Repair of Automobiles  Construction and Maintenance of Roads  Through the active involvement of teachers, staff, and students, the building located at 79 Kievskaya Street (in the central area of Chișinău) was renovated. Twenty-five classrooms, specialized laboratories, workshops, and a gym were established, laying the foundation for a robust technical-material environment conducive to high-quality vocational training.  The year 1959 marked a significant development — the introduction of part-time studies. Over subsequent decades, the institution expanded its educational offer, gradually opening new specialties:  1963 — Road Transport Operations  1968 — Operation and Repair of Road Machinery and Equipment  1986 — Machine Tools and Instruments  2001 — Computerized Diagnostics and Homologation of Road Transport  In 1972, a modern educational complex was commissioned at 31 Starogo Street (currently Sarmizegetusa 31), equipped with contemporary training technologies and extensive teaching resources. The institution valorized interregional expertise, adopting best practices from similar technical schools in Ukraine, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia, and other republics.  A major institutional transformation took place through Government Directive no. 431 of June 23, 1993, which restructured the Road and Automotive Technical School into the Transport College of Chișinău, under the authority of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Moldova.  Following the external evaluation carried out by the National Council for Academic Evaluation and Accreditation in 2002, the institution received official accreditation by Government Decision no. 562 of May 7, 2003 (Accreditation Certificate no. 012 of May 23, 2002).  Starting with 2003, the institution strengthened its international dimension through strategic educational partnerships. The first international cooperation agreement was signed with Marcel Callo Technical High School (Redon, France), generating long-term academic exchanges, teacher mobility, and joint instructional activities. Subsequent collaboration agreements were signed with esteemed technical colleges in Romania (Iași, Adjud, Constanța, Galați), thus consolidating cross-border cooperation in vocational education.  The most recent transformation occurred on July 20, 2015, when Government Decision no. 444 reorganized the Transport College of Chișinău into the Public Institution “Center of Excellence in Transport,” granting it the highest status in the national vocational education system (post-secondary, ISCED level 4).
