Sojoud, a 22 years old female from a small village showed a great example of leadership and pioneering. “I am living in a village that is located between three governorates, Ajloun, Balqaa and Jerash, it is now known as Al Mansoura, but previously it was known as Al khshebe”. The strategic location of the village was inspiring to be utilized for starting a business, moreover, there was no mini market established in that area, so it was underserved in which affected badly on the women in those areas and their accessibility to near mini market.
Sjoud participated in Madad project implemented by BDC and that was an eye opening for her, where she expressed that the project created the entrepreneurial personality in her and inspired her to open her business.
“While mapping my area, I was focusing on serving the women and housewives located in the area and near governorates. It is rarely for women in my area to buy their groceries and goods, this is why I was motivated to open a woman owned and managed mini market to serve women whenever their male partners were outside the house and to provide for their families”.
Sojoud didn’t have the capital to start her business, but that didn’t stop her and she gathered the needed money from her family and she opened a small mini market, she started to payback for her family and with the extra profits she is covering her community college expenses. She is setting an example of how women can go very far to make their dreams come true. After that, she built a 35 miter squared storage to be her new mini market, she is aiming to make expand her business and import new goods in her market to make it one stop shop for the community residents.
Sojoud is studying Arabic literature in Ajloun Community College and she is in her 2nd year, she is splitting her lectures over three days a week to enable her to manage the mini market, but meanwhile her sister manages the mini market while she is at the college.
Sojoud aspiration to go bigger and expand her branch and provide employment opportunities for other women in the area to empower them.
