Educators are called to play the key role of equipping learners with the competences needed to shape a more sustainable economy and society, in a transformative and interdisciplinary fashion, and to take action to enact lasting, structural change.

What needs to happen for educators to become key change-makers for sustainable societies?
Case study from Georgia
Based on the presentation of Maia Bliadze, European University, Georgia
Green education and formation of green skills in Georgia is a new challenge, and therefore its introduction requires great efforts and diverse approaches. Our activities in the direction of green skills development are very diverse and we try to implement various activities.
The vector of our activity is aimed at the professional development of Georgian teachers, because they are the people who can best bring the idea of green education to students and help them to form green skills.
Tools to support teachers:
We try to help educators in different ways. For example, we have prepared resources - HANDBOOKS AND ACTIVITY KITS FOR BOTH STUDENTS AND TEACHERS, which provide them with information on climate change, water resources, green energy, as well as green and circular economy, etc. about issues.
We also prepared TRAINING MODULES ON SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT AND ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY, according to which we retrained teachers of Georgian schools. The experts of the National Center for Professional Development of Teachers have prepared a completely innovative interdisciplinary project "My Climate Friendly School". The project is in the pilot mode, as consultation meetings with schools show us, it has a very positive response among students, which manifested by their high involvement. We also have a similar project on water resources.
On the initiative of the Teacher's House and the European University, within the framework of social responsibility, we conduct webinars for teachers on sustainable development goals and green skills. We invite experts from various fields to the webinars.
This is a small list of the activities that we carry out in order to introduce and spread green skills.
Maia: I think the resources and activities we offer help teachers to conduct the learning process in a more interesting way in both formal and informal context applying the action-oriented transformative pedagogical approach.
Maia is one of the speakers, who contributed to the webinar organized by the ETF Community of Innovative Educators.
