We invite you to express your interest in participating in our online validation workshop of the ETF Formative Assessment Toolkit on Tuesday 23 January 2024 from 10.30 to 12.30 CET.
Assessment is an important aspect of the learning process, used to provide feedback to learners on their progress (formative assessment), and to assess the final achievement of students as a basis for certification (summative assessment).
Although summative assessment is important, too much emphasis on summative assessment can result in teaching and learning for the test, and learning could become a hurdle race for learners. Learners can experience stress and sometimes even develop resistance against learning. On the other hand, research shows the power of feedback in raising the learning experiences and achievements of learners.
Feedback is the core of formative assessment. Formative assessment not only provides feedback to learners to facilitate their learning, but also to educators to support them in adjusting the learning programme based on their learners’ needs. Therefore, formative assessment can also help to address challenges in our education systems such as learners’ disengagement, drop-out and the ability to address the diverse needs of learners with different backgrounds.
To support educators and schools in further developing their formative assessment practices we have developed a formative assessment toolkit. We would like to receive feedback on the toolkit before finalising it. Therefore, we are organising a validation workshop on Tuesday 23 January 2024. We will ask participants in this validation workshop to have a look at the Toolkit before the workshop. During the workshop we will facilitate a discussion to receive feedback. The workshop will be in English only.
If you are interested in participation in this workshop, please send an email to NewLearning@etf.europa.eu introducing yourself and why you would like to join the validation workshop. We are looking forward to your expression of interest!
