It has long been known that mirror neurons provide the ability to repeat words and actions after another person.
- Do as I do! - says a teacher or trainer, and the student repeats.
However, few people know that it is the mirror neurons that cause us to be affected by other people's emotions.
The dubbing of films, commercials and talk shows is based on this. You hear the off-screen laughter and your lips involuntarily stretch into a smile.
The disturbing cacophony of the symphony orchestra gives you a sharper sense of the tragedy of the plot in the show.
Mirror neurons help the mother to recognise the state of the infant when it has not yet spoken. An empathetic mother has few cries because she picks up on his silent requests telepathically.
Communication between people is 70% non-verbal. We consciously and unconsciously send our partner many signals. His/her mirror neuron system reads them. We are deceived by word of mouth, fall victim to manipulation, or miss the chance to get closer to our partner because we do not know how to decipher the signals coming from him/her on the non-verbal level of communication.
