Cultural and creative industries, as a relatively young but recognized development term, must be developed in accordance with the needs of society. The intention in Montenegro is to map the cultural and creative industries in the country, which represents an undertaking whose end result should serve as a starting point for decision-makers for monitoring the development of cultural and creative industries and guiding policies in the coming period.

Last year, a significant growth of business registered in the sector of computer programs and games was recorded in Montenegro, which employed almost 30% of employees in the sector of creative industries - 3.4% of the gross added value in Montenegro in 2021 was created in this sector; 10.2% of registered business entities in 2022 are active in these sectors and 4.5% of the total number of employees are in business entities that are active in the cultural and creative industries sector. When it comes to the structure of business entities by sector for 2021, 23% are computer programs and games, and less than 20% are companies registered in advertising and market communications.

It is to be expected that continued support to this sector in the coming period will have a positive impact on the development of various segments of cultural expression that link their survival to individual microenvironments. It is necessary to pair creative initiatives with wider socio-economic environment, in order to allow generating the new economic values.

On this occasion, on January 27-28, 2023, the Ministry of Culture and Media organized the National Conference on Creativity "Time of Creativity" in Kotor. The topics of the conference were creative cities, creativity in tourism, education for the creative economy and creative industries, cultural heritage as a driver of the creative economy, creative techniques and successful creative projects.

Addressing creativity in society as a whole, the National Conference creates a platform for dialogue and recognition of creativity as a driver of development in Montenegro. Although usually associated with culture, art and creative industries, creativity is present in all areas of work and life. It is a central segment in the development of new, original ideas and solutions that are necessary for the business, tourism, construction, industrial design, science, engineering, economics, etc.

The conference brought together over 50 creative people - creative entrepreneurs and experts in areas such as creativity in culture, creative industries, creative economy, tourism, education both, from Montenegro and from the Balkan region. The Ministry of Culture and Media intends to continue with its activities in this area aiming to contribute to the affirmation of the area of creative industries, and networking and strengthening of actors in this segment of culture and cultural policies of Montenegro. In this way, space will be opened for connecting culture with other complementary departments.

Very interesting initiative and relevant for thinking about different sectors contribution to economic and social development and the role of skills. We have a project focusing on Crafts where we have lot of material that could be useful for the project. We are also hosting next week a foresight on CRAFTs with other international organisations - we can bring all these info together and discuss in one network meeting
