Description of the practice:
The PICTURES project, or "Pedagogical Inclusive Education and Training System to Upskills Cross-Sector Practitioners Working with Minors and Emerging Adults in Correctional Systems," aims to address the complex issue of professionalising practitioners from various fields who support emerging adults in prison. The project focuses on education, re-engaging with learning, and developing teaching methods for corrections.
The project addresses the challenge of professionalising practitioners who work with emerging adults in correctional systems. It seeks to create a common language for these practitioners to better support this vulnerable group.
The project is innovative because it focuses on education, re-engaging with learning, and developing specialised teaching methods tailored for emerging adults in corrections. This approach is based on a departure from standard educational practices, putting in place an innovative and specific methodology for this context - reducing the distance between the learner and the learning experience with the help of trained professionals that understand age and context, and use trauma informed pedagogy
The project aims to upskill practitioners who work with emerging adults in prison. The role of the teacher/trainer is therefore to learn and implement the new teaching methods and develop a common language for addressing the educational needs of emerging adults in correctional settings.
The project focuses on developing teaching methods for corrections and re-engaging emerging adults with learning. It looks at the informal and non-formal practices for professionals engaging in teaching roles without professional certification, as mainly the case in our ecosystem. So it not only supports the learners but also the teachers.
The project is intended to create a common language for practitioners supporting emerging adults in prison, which starts with improved communication and collaboration among practitioners from different sectors, that all deliver learning contexts to our vulnerable population. By focusing on education and re-engagement with learning, the practice aims to positively impact the educational outcomes and experiences of emerging adults in correctional systems. The project seeks to improve the educational opportunities for emerging adults in prison. To this date in Europe there is no pedagogical training to serve this population in the correctional context, and no available courses for the correctional pedagogy, we are the first.
The materials developed within the project are available in multiple languages including English, Romanian, Bulgarian, Portuguese, Greek, Italian, Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian and North Macedonian
