Dear Friends and Readers,

We are pleased to inform you that this year’s international conference: Towards a Workless Society? An Interdisciplinary Reflection on the Changing Concept of Work and its Rules in Contemporary Economies will take place in-person from Thursday 30 November to Saturday 2 December in Bergamo (Italy).

The 13 edition of the ADAPT conference-series on the New Great Transformation of Work is organised in cooperation with the CIELO Laboral Network and thanks to the financial support of our event content partner, the World Employment Confederation (WEC).

Work plays a major role in terms of self-definition, though younger generations seem to give it less relevance, as a result of the pandemic and new organizational models. Novel ways of working – along with significant market polarization – have changed the perception of work, now increasingly regarded as an activity to ensure subsistence.

Against this backdrop, the 2023 edition of the conference organized by ADAPT’s International School of Higher Education in Labour Law and Industrial Relations aims to bring together the reflections and contributions on the different aspects that affect today’s meaning of work for people and their identity. A comparative and interdisciplinary approach will be adopted, in order to deal with all the facets of the issues at hand.

FULL PROGRAMME
The conference will feature four plenary sessions and fifteen concurrent workshops. Over the three days, more than one hundred and forty speakers from over twenty countries will present their research.

As always, ADAPT’s International School of Higher Education in Labour Law and Industrial Relations has committed to making this conference free and open to anyone, so speakers and participants are not required to pay a registration fee. Our open-access policy makes our research accessible to all, especially to early-career scholars and to those who might have limited financial resources. Our conference should thus be seen as an opportunity to share knowledge.

This is only possible thanks to our sponsors, supporters and ADAPT's partners which enable us to organise events having global reach, in which anyone can participate to exchange ideas, providing their contribution to ‘building the future of work together’, which is also ADAPT’s motto.

On Thursday morning, November 30, the international conference will be preceded by a pre-conference (held in italian) titled PNRR, lavoro e territori. Progettare e governare il cambiamento organised with the support of Intesa Sanpaolo, Ascom Bergamo, Confimi Industria and Confcooperative Bergamo. The aim of the pre-conference is to facilitate exchanges between local institutions and social partners, focusing on the the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and its implementation at the local level, among others through the establishment of ‘local pacts’ for work and skills.

Participation in the international conference and in the pre-conference is free, though registration is required.
