Lights, Camera, AI: How Students Create Short Films with Emerging Tech
Imagine a classroom where creativity meets cutting-edge technology. This project brings that vision to life by guiding middle and high school students through the complete process of making a short film—powered by Artificial Intelligence (AI).
What’s the Goal?
- Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience with AI tools for scriptwriting, animation, sound, and editing.
- Creative Development: Encouraging innovative storytelling and visual design.
- Collaboration & Project Management: Building teamwork and planning skills.
- Ethical AI Use: Understanding responsible AI practices in creative industries.
How It Works
Students use a suite of AI tools:
- Gemini & ChatGPT for scriptwriting and ideation.
- Haiper AI & Runway ML for visual design and animation.
- Suno AI, Eleven Labs, Udio AI for sound and voice production.
- Playground AI & Recraft AI for creative assets.
- CapCut for final editing and post-production.
Challenges
- Different learning speeds: Some students excel in technical tasks, others in creative ones.
- Solution: Personalized support, flexible timelines, and peer feedback to keep everyone engaged.
Ethical Considerations
- Avoid unconscious bias in AI-generated narratives.
- Promote transparency and originality.
- Teach students to critically evaluate AI outputs.
Why It Matters
