Innovation Beyond Digital: STEAM education with creativity in mind

Focus: The webinar focuses on discussing steaming up already popular Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) education approach with even more holistic inclusion of Arts - leading to a STEAM concept.

Audience: The webinar is intended for teachers (VET and general education); STE(A)M educators; Creating New Learning community members; representatives of education authorities (e.g. curriculum department, monitoring division, assessment body); experts and enthusiasts.

Languages: The webinar shall be conducted in English and Russian with the simultaneous translation.

Outcomes: The webinar provides participants an opportunities to learn about the introduction of STEM and later STEAM approach; to get familiarized with the innovations (be it digital or not) from the EaP region; to conceptualize why Arts and creativity are important in teaching STEM.

Key activities:

- The organizer Merab Labadze shall overview the best practises from Europe and around the world and present practical examples of multi-subject projects, lessons and other educational activities.

- From the presentation by Kakha Jgenti and Medea Abramishvili participants shall learn how to transform STEM to STEAM on the examples and projects of the STEM subjects support program – Club “Chkhirkedela” (Tinkerers’ Club/Tinkerlab) in Georgia. STEM/STEAM education program achievements, innovations and findings shall be presented leading to understanding the motivational factors and learning by doing approaches. 

- Oksana Pasichnyk shall talk about Creative Computer Science by answering the questions: Can computer science be creative, or is it the world of ones and zeroes? Can our strict curriculum allow creativity? Is it possible only for advances classes and with innovative equipment? In the presentation she willl explore what creativity might look like in computer science lessons and beyond. 

The first hour shall be dedicated to the planned presentations and communicating with the speakers. After that the webinar will give opportunities for participants to share their experiences with STEM/STEAM projects across the region and get aware about the best cases.
