Curriculum evaluation
Evaluation should be conducted throughout the process, but also at the end to examine the effectiveness of the curriculum innovation. Four quality criteria are often used to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of curricula (Nieveen, 2009). These criteria can be used for both formative and summative evaluation of the curricula:
- Relevance: There is a clearly identified need for the revised or newly developed curriculum and the curriculum is based on the latest knowledge.
- Consistency: The different elements of the curriculum are consistent with each other.
- Practicality: The curriculum can be implemented as intended in the setting for which it has been designed.
- Effectiveness: With the implementation of the curriculum the desired outcomes are achieved.
