Do you know about the role of parents in career and education decisions of their children? And how parents can be better supported on this?
Then you should read or at least glance through the recently published report of the University of Warwick (IER-Institute for Employment Research) produced in cooperation with the Gatsby and JP Morgan Chase Foundations. Or you could join one of the forthcoming webinars (on 25 March 2020 , 4 pm or 7 April 2020, 10 am). In case you miss it, don't worry, the webinars will be recorded and can be found on the IER website.
We all know that parents affect the career choice of their kids more than career practitioners, teachers, friends or other influencers.
There is a lot of evidence in this report that parents are not confident in their advice and lack understanding of the various pathways and the labour market. The research includes a review of UK and international evidence, practices and interventions. It tries to find out what is going on in practice, what is working and any challenges or barriers to engaging parents..

You can find in this report also recommendations to policymakers '(e.g. to specify parent involvement in any benchmarking or quality assurance). As well as recommendations for schools, colleges and career organisations (e.g. embedding engagement activities across the curriculum, developing 'peer communities').
