On the 15 July an outstanding number of 116 participants from ETF partner countries gathered together during the online event to discuss the role of Extended reality (XR) for VET and Lifelong Learning.

The Webinar "Extended reality (XR) for VET and Lifelong Learning: ideas and practical applications" was organized by ETF Community of Innovative Educators in collaboration with ITC-ILO.

The event reported on the results of the XR Skills Experts Meeting organised by ETF and ITC-ILO in Turin and presented a few real life cases of Augmented and Virtual reality application in education and training settings.

Presentation of main results of the XR Turin Experts Meeting and future steps by Stefano Merante, ITCILO and Fabio Nascimbeni, ETF

Overview of challenges and associated visions by Stefano Merante:

- Technical Skills Development -> XR is a pedagogically accepted technology and cost-effective approach in formal vocational and technical education adopted on a large scale to develop practical technical skills.

- Role of Teachers and Trainers -> Trainers' capacity-building, facilitating curriculum change and embracing the benefits of XR to achieve optimal and cost-effective solutions.

- Assessment and Certification -> Cost-effective solutions and XR technologies adopted for increased efficiency and access to assessment and certification.

- Ethics and Governance -> To have ethical Governance of XR Systems; by establishing regulatory framework and control bodies that are legally held responsible for ensuring ethics, transparency, accountability, equity, and social inclusion.

- Social Inclusion -> an immersive future for skills development that improves the quality and relevance of learning and training processes, ensuring a wider outreach that promotes inclusive and equitable opportunities for all.

- Open XR resources and knowledge-sharing platforms-> Embracing open educational resources (OER) and XR together helps the efforts of democratizing the use of these technologies while ensuring equitable access.
