European Training Foundation (EFT) conducted a webinar entitled “Innovative Models in Online and Blended Environment in the Arab speaking world”” on Wednesday, February 16th , 2022 at 3 p.m. (Rome time). This webinar aimed at helping secondary and vocational teachers in the South and East Mediterranean (Lebanon, Tunisia, Morroco, Jordan, Egypt, Palestine, and Algeria) to get familiar with different types of online innovative teaching models: audio, video, and web based. Creative online teaching and learning activities along with creative online assessment techniques were presented in the webinar, which help teachers to design innovative and effective online instruction and assessment.

Mr. Fabio Nascimbeni, Educational expert at ETF, and Dr. Nehme Safa welcomed the participants and set out the goals of the webinar. Afterwards, participants introduced themselves, and Dr. Nehme Safa started his presentation using Mentimeter to have participants identify the technological applications they used during distance and blended learning environments.

Dr. Nehme Safa then shared best innovative web-based models developed and implemented by his students during remote and blended learning. These models (Padlet, Kahoot, Edpuzzle, Educaplay, WordWall, Quizlet, h5p, Screencast O Matic, Animaker, Camtesia, Captivate) pertain to different subject areas. Some of these models include features that enable teachers to pinpoint student strengths and weaknesses (Educaplay, Liveworksheets). Others stimulate student motivation and have students compete for the top rank (WordWall, Educaplay, Kahoot).  Presenting these models showed that employing them will help teachers maintain quality learning while teaching remotely.

Mr. Fouad Ibrahim, who is a secondary Economics teacher, share his innovative practices of teaching economics using the whiteboard feature of Microsoft Teams and OneNote application. Mr. Ibrahim presented how these applications helped him use a digital pen to type the mathematical formulas and how they kept his students engaged during distance learning.

Mr. Rabhi Saeed, who is a Jordanian Physics teacher and a curriculum expert, shared innovative online teaching models implemented by Jordanian teachers using a platform developed by Jordanian Ministry of Education. Mr. Rabhi showed how this platform helped Jordanian teachers to sustain student interaction and collaboration.

The webinar ended with an open discussion among participants about the pros of these models
