Real change in vocational education requires systemic, investment and political support. This is the current course of vocational education reform in Ukraine, said Oleksiy Dniprov, Deputy Head of the President's Office, during the official opening of the All-Ukrainian Week of Vocational Education today, November 22, 2021.

“Pursuant to the Decree of the President of Ukraine“ On Priority Measures for the Development of Vocational (Technical) Education ”, the Council for the Development of Vocational Education was established. This is a push for reform, as the system has finally gained an influential and professional team capable of defending interests at the national level. In order to comprehensively modernize vocational education in Ukraine, it is important to involve the efforts of all stakeholders, especially business and local managers, ”said Oleksiy Dniprov.

The results and tasks of the vocational education reform in 2021 were discussed at the event. Among the most important goals is the development of 62 educational and practical centers and the approval of the State Targeted Social Program for the Development of Vocational Education for 2022-2027, which will help create decent working conditions for teachers of vocational schools.

"We have many successful cases of vocational education. We have someone to be proud of: new equipment, educational programs adapted to the needs of employers, successful stories of graduates, professional teachers. We need to talk about it louder and more confidently. We are glad to join such an important international initiative to draw attention to the topic of vocational education in the political and media discourse of Ukraine, "said Deputy Minister of Education and Science Igor Garbaruk.

The innovations of the draft Law of Ukraine "On Vocational Education and Training" were also presented at the event. The People's Deputy of Ukraine Olga Koval noted that the bill should be modern and comprehensive, and must be aimed at promoting vocational education in Ukrainian society. To this end, in addition to updating the terminology, a high status of students will be ensured and progressive approaches will be introduced in the activities of vocational education institutions.

"It is important for business that the new bill covers the entire system of vocational education, including on-the-job training as a separate type. In addition, employers have long been investing in the promotion of vocational education, for example, through the Worldskills Ukraine competition. Currently, the competition is one of the most important tools for promoting vocational education in Ukraine. We hope that in the future more employers will be ready to support Worldskills Ukraine financially, communicatively, ideologically or in any other way, "said Olena Kolesnikova, Chairman of the Branch Council of the Federation of Metallurgists of Ukraine.

Martin Schroeder, Head of Local Development and Human Capital at the EU Delegation to Ukraine, joined the event. He noted that effective vocational education guarantees economic stability and development of the country. The EU plans to continue to support Ukraine in reforming this sector.
