This week sees the launch of an international survey to explore the digital competences and training needs of secondary school teachers in South East Europe. The survey will enable teachers to self-assess their digital competences, building upon the DigCom Edu Framework that has been developed by the European Union's Joint Research Centre (JRC).
Designing, translating and testing the survey has required the cooperation of education ministries, national development agencies, teachers and experts from the five countries participating in the survey: Albania, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia. The European Training Foundation (ETF) has worked in partnership with the Education Reform Initiative of South Eastern Europe’s Teacher Education and Training Network (ERI-SEE) and the European Union's Joint Research Centre (JRC) to coordinate this survey.
A random sample has been devised, including teachers from some 120 vocational and general schools, that will provide a representative picture of the digital competences of teachers in the region. The survey will help schools and national authorities to evaluate current training provision and to make plans for the future. Questions have been included to address the experiences of teachers teaching remotely as a result of CoVid-19.
It is planned that the survey will run for two weeks. Selected schools in each country will be assisted to make use of data to plan their own workforce development.
It is intended that this pilot will lead to the publication of a tool that can be made available to other countries.
