Make the change happen with a small – scale development project: best practice of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University Media and TV Art College (LEPL), Georgia
How the journey started?
- ETF Network of Excellence launched the Initiative called “Developing and Sharing Excellence on digitalisation of teaching and learning”
- Joined by: Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University Media and TV Art College
- Mentored by: ETF DIGI ENE experts supported by & STEPS
Main NEEDS identified by LEPL:
- increase students' involvement in the online study process;
- get access to the open education audio-visual materials;
- support teachers to make the learning process more interesting and increase students' motivation to study online;
- increase the collaboration with other practitioners.
FOCUS: Creation of Innovative Learning scenarios using existing digital repositories
AIMs of the development project implemented by LEPL:
- explore the educational potential of existing digital repositories refering to digital cultural heritage & create/test innovative learning scenarios using existing digital repositories (creation of digital content);
- increase teachers' digital competences (when to find the digitalized content/how to use it);
- make the learning process (especially the lessons provided online) much more interesting and to increase students' motivation to study online.
In ACTION:
During the journey with ETF DIGI ENE Initiative, LEPL team explored the educational potential of Europeana’s digitised collection and content available on the Teaching with Europeana platform, with resources in multiple formats (such as pictures, videos, texts, 3D) and multiple languages, various tools like Transcribathon and Historiana and other ready-to use materials . Moreover, they were introduced to the learning scenario template and guided to implement it and build their own. Europeana offers a selection of videos with tested learning scenarios designed by educators from different countries.
IMPACT:
- About 20 teachers and students got involved into the project activities (teachers attending webinars/ workshops and peer learning activities).
- Teachers increased their knowledge about new digital tools in education.
- Teachers increased their knowledge about digital content creation; use, property rights and existing open licenses (e.g. Creative commons license) and the meaning of Open Education resources (OERs).
- Thanks to this initiative teachers are able to make the learning process much more interesting, which as the final results will increase students' motivation to study online.
- Teachers feel empowered to use new technologies. It improves their understanding of the educational potential of digital cultural heritage so they can efficiently integrate it into their lessons and practices.
- Teachers raised their digital competences about how to design engaging and deep-learning content for students - lifelong learners to prepare them as active and responsible citizens with key competencies to thrive in life.
