Make the change happen with a small – scale development projects: best practice of the Center of Excellence in Energy and Electronics (CEEE) from Moldova

How the journey started?

  • ETF Network of Excellence launched the Initiative called “Developing and Sharing Excellence on digitalisation of teaching and learning”
  • Joined by: Center of Excellence in Energy and Electronics, https://ceee.md/
  • Mentored by: ETF DIGI ENE experts supported by STEPS

Main NEEDS identified by Center of Excellence in Energy and Electronics (CEEE):

  • improve students’ skills in digital content creation;
  • improve a meaningful use of the technology by students (not only for fun but for learning);
  • facilitate critical, reflective and open-minded engagement with digital technologies (ethical, safe, responsible approach to use these tools);
  • increase students’ skills to use ICT equipment for an efficient organization of free time and the maximum exploitation of the possibilities offered by the electronic device;
  • provide opportunities to participate in various innovative learning activities, competitions, stimulating student’s personal growth.

FOCUS of the project: Digitally competent student – a task for the 21st-century School

The purpose of the development project implemented by CEEE was to enhance the role of the student in the process of digital content creation inside the Center of Excellence for Energy and Electronics.

The project has a dual objective:

  • to strengthen  students' digital and critical literacy skills and
  • to contribute to the improvement of the selected curricula.

In ACTION:

CEEE team coordinated be the teacher Sergiu Coceas supported students to play an active role in the co-creation process of the learning content including the ability to create a quality digital content that can be used as open educational resources (OERs) for other students.

Applied forms of students’ involvement into the process of digital content co-creation in CEEE:

  • Collection of students’ input in the revision of current learning/teaching materials. In this model, students have an online access to digital textbooks in selected subjects and provide feedback on the content, including assessment components and suggesting improvements directly to the textbooks.
  • Creation of content: students were involved in the process of collecting, grouping and structuring digital learning materials. In this model, students were assigned specific curriculum components/modules and tasked to collect relevant learning materials from the Internet. Students were guided by the teacher about etical and responsible searching methods, and about the creation of OERs Open Educational Resources that can be used also by other students/Institutions.
  • Development of digital materials for specific modules of the curricula. In this case, students were asked to develop samples of a digital content that can be integrated into the school curricula. In this case, teachers’ role was crucial in the process of quality assurance and integration with existing educational materials.

The CEEE team participated in several international and national workshops and seminars and carried out a number of internal trainings for students and teachers. Students have had the chance to showcase their work, best results were awarded.

IMPACT:

  • CEEE team carried out more than 90 hours of internal training and consultations.
  • More than 20 teachers from CEEE were involved in the project activities & more than 60 students participated in the activities.
  • Students significantly increased their knowledge about how digital technologies can support communication, creativity and innovation, and are aware of their opportunities, limitations and risks. They understand the general principles and logic underlying evolving digital technologies and know the basic function and use of different devices, software, and networks. Moreover, students learned to keep a critical approach to the validity, reliability and impact of information and data made available by digital means and become aware of the legal and ethical principles involved in engaging with digital technologies.
  • Students are now more likely to take extracurricular opportunities to test new tools for creating digital content.
  • Through the co-creation process, students feel to be active players in the learning process, they are involved and are much more motivated to study and give their active contribution to the creation of a digital content, which thanks to the virtual library can be collected, stored and re-used by other students as  an open educational resources.
  • All activities helped teachers and students to shape an open-minded, forward-looking attitude to the engagement with digital technologies which requires ethical, safe and responsible approach to the use of digital tools.
