Blog Series

Dear all,

Yesterday, we did contribute to an exciting online meeting (yes, online can be exciting !) in which about 40 colleagues discussed in several rounds about the 5 reviews and their outcomes to create a clear direction for CNL (Creating New Learning initiative (CNL) | Open Space (europa.eu)

After a short pitch on the 5 reviews, we had an good view on what is going on in these fields (Learning environments; curriculum ; personalized learning and differentiation; educators and professionalization, Digital and online learning).

Our discussion focussed on 'what did we miss?' and 'what is key?'.

For me, the conclusion is cristal clear !!!

We missed the following aspects because our reviews were not looking into these keywords, but we should not forget that for any innovation to come, these are 2 main points:

- Lecturing has very little impact for learners, mainly because we do use it too much and we do it for the wrong purposes. So here we need a real change. Perhaps more hybrid learning?

- Our too widely spread testing culture has resulted in a population where a majority has now an aversion towards learning, that is barely motivated and has a lack of self-efficacy. This is a very weak starting point for lifelong learning, ALE, etc. Perhaps we need to think about more 'Assessment as Learning'?

Curious to see what seems to be key?

Come and read that tomorrow. :)

Best regards,

Filip
