The VET Higher Secondary School “Gjin Gazulli” in Prishtina, Republic of Kosovo, was established in 1979. It is an electrotechnical school known for its excellent educational programs and supportive learning environment for students. Its vision is to enhance students’ personal development to enable their integration into a democratic society as active and capable citizens, while equipping them to succeed in an ever-evolving labor market. Furthermore, its mission is to provide conditions for all students to receive quality education and training, while cultivating lifelong learning habits and the values of democratic citizenship, and encouraging them to be responsible and accountable for their work and actions. Study Programs and Infrastructure It offers a wide range of school programs and extracurricular activities to enhance the personal and academic development of students. There are eight study profiles that our school offers, with a main focus on Information Technology, Energetics, and Electronics. The study profiles are Software Application Developer, IT Systems Technician, Business Informatics Specialist, Interactive Media Developer, Electronics Technician, Telecommunications Technician, Solar Photovoltaic Systems Technician (Dual System), and Electrical Installations Technician (Dual System). Our school provides modern, well-equipped facilities for practical learning. Our laboratories feature up-to-date technology, allowing students to develop real professional skills that meet current labor market needs. The school’s contemporary spaces are designed to encourage hands-on learning, innovation, and creativity. Dual Education Our school has been implementing the Dual Education system for two years in two different study profiles: Electrical Installations and Solar Photovoltaic Systems. In the Electrical Installations study profile, this is the second year of applying the Dual system, while in the Solar Photovoltaic Systems program, this is the first year of its implementation. Students sign a three-year contract with the company where they carry out their practical training and are continuously supervised by their professional practice teacher as well as by the company’s field expert. The Dual Education system includes: Theoretical learning at school; Professional subjects; Technical knowledge and Work preparation. Practical training in companies: Students work in designated companies during the school year and they learn from company mentors and professional practice teachers. Three-year contract: Students sign a three-year contract with the company for the entire period of schooling and the contract defines tasks, practice schedule, and responsibilities. Dual supervision: By the professional practice teacher and by the company mentor/field expert. Benefits for students: Real work experience, practical professional skills, direct contact with businesses and high employability after graduation. Many students who follow the Dual Education system often get employed by the companies where they completed their practical training. Staff and Students The school staff includes administrative employees, teachers, and technical staff. The administrative staff consists of the director, vice-director, secretary, psychologist, quality coordinator, business coordinator, and career counsellor. There are 54 teachers and 10 technical staff members. The total number of students is around 800, with seventy percent being boys and thirty percent being girls. It is important to mention that the number of girls enrolled in our school has increased recently, and their interest has been in study profiles related to Information Technology and Telecommunications. The school staff participates in trainings organized by the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation in Kosovo, attends professional development programs, takes part in conferences, workshops, and seminars, and contributes to the development of educational standards and curricula (including Dual Education). They remain consistently up to date with the latest developments in the field of education. In this school year 2025/26, the school has conducted various trainings, including the fourth session of the Training of Trainers (ToT) for implementing Dual Education, and training for Professional Practice Teachers (PPT) within the Dual System. Additionally, teachers received training funded by LuxDev and participated in a coordination workshop focused on ICT profiles. They also took part in a workshop as part of the “Skills for Sustainable Employment” project, where the final list of equipment for energy laboratories was determined, supported by a donation from LuxDev. Furthermore, dedicated training for ICT teachers was provided under the tkaedite.eu project. Partnerships and Cooperation The school has cooperation agreements with a large number of national companies for professional internships and partnerships, such as KEDS, Trio Kos, Besa Security, Zero Gravity Solutions L.L.C, ITS – Information Technology Services, Eltech Kosova, Professional Alarm LLC, Proton Group SH.P.K, Bonevet, Nettxio, ISP Broadcast, Al Trade Sh.P.K, LOGING ELECTRONIC, and Cacttus Education, as well as colleges like AAB College, RIT Kosova (A.U.K), and Universum International College. This creates excellent opportunities for students to organize professional practice, prepare for the job market, and increase their employability. Projects, Mobility, and Activities Our students participate in clubs, competitions, exhibitions, and innovative initiatives that foster creativity and practical skills. This year, our school has the following groups/clubs: • Eco Club • Future Bots Group • CybHER Girls’ Club • Sports Clubs • Young Linguists Club Some of the extracurricular activities carried out during this school year include: • Student participation in the application for the Cyber Security Club in Kosovo within the framework of the CybHER project (our school was selected) • Science Camp (SHFMU “Qamil Batalli”) - Our students participated with the Lightchaser 2.0 project • Training – Youth in Technology, which includes building educational mBot robots, educational quizzes, and programming using Python for the micro:Maqueen Plus • Student participation in the Day of Social Inclusion • Participation in the KosICT 2025 Conference – Dual VET Panel • Participation in the activity “Running of the 2008 Generation” • Students’ application for scholarships at the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation (MASHT) This year at Cacttus Education, 150 12th-grade students are attending courses on “Modern AI.” At ISP Broadcast and ITS, students have completed professional practice in computer networks, including local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN). This year, students and teachers from our school received an invitation to attend “The Fair of Technology” organized by KOS ICT 2025 – an essential event for technology and innovation in Kosovo. This valuable experience offered students the opportunity to become closely familiar with innovations in technology, artificial intelligence, and continuous digital improvements that are changing the world. A senior student from our school represented Kosovo at the European Cybersecurity Championship in Warsaw, Poland, among a high number of peer participants, thus representing the school respectfully and with dignity. The VET Higher Secondary School “Gjin Gazulli” was accredited as a CISCO Academy in 2024 in collaboration with USAID, RIT Kosova, and IREX. In addition, three ICT teachers are certified as Cisco trainers, and more than 300 students have been certified in the field of Information Technology, specifically in IT Essentials, Cybersecurity, and C++. In November 2023, during the Hour of Code, the students of our school, together with ICT teachers, created the “Aplikacioni 112,” the prototype of an emergency mobile application within the framework of a Hackathon. The organization of this hackathon was very appropriate and well-targeted, as students, with great dedication, put their theoretical knowledge into practice, expanding, strengthening, and applying it functionally. In recent years, our school has established cooperation agreements with various foreign organizations, including LuxDev, USAID, and Caritas Switzerland in Kosovo. Their contributions have been invaluable, as they have made significant investments that greatly impact the development of our school. These partnerships not only enhance our programs but also create new opportunities for our students. The Luxembourg Development Cooperation Agency (LuxDev) is one of the most important donors for our school. They have supported us with a wide variety of technological equipment vital for the learning process and funded study visits for our teachers in European countries, thus providing firsthand experience with Dual VET Education. Additionally, they have supported our teachers with professional training in Information Technology, Energetics, and Electronics. Through the project “Revitalizing the School through a Green Initiative,” funded by Caritas Switzerland in Kosovo in cooperation with the Ministry of Regional Development, Green Art Center, and Youth Environmental Impact (YENI), the students of our school’s Eco Club received a grant in the form of solar panels, which were installed in 2024. Our school has been part of various mobility programs, such as Intervet Western Balkans, where a teacher and two students participated in a workshop organized in Lyon, France. In cooperation with the Kosova Education Center (KEC), as part of two major initiatives – MeOut (Move to Improve) and MOBIUS (two leading initiatives supported and funded by the European Union) – several of our school’s teachers represented the school. The main objectives of these projects were the exchange of best practices, the analysis of vocational education and training systems in the region, and the creation of new partnerships aimed at developing modern and inclusive vocational training programs. In cooperation with the Luxembourg Development Cooperation and the Ministry of Education in Kosovo, a considerable number of our school staff participated in study visits to Germany, Switzerland, and Luxembourg. During these visits, the administrative staff and teachers had the opportunity to closely observe various formal and non-formal education institutions focused on youth vocational training in different professional fields. These visits aimed to familiarize our staff with best practices in the development and implementation of Dual Education. Teachers from our school also participated in the largest career conference and fair for women in ICT in Europe – the Perspectywy Women in Tech Summit in Warsaw, Poland – gaining valuable opportunities to learn about the latest trends in technology, establish professional connections with international companies and educational institutions, apply best teaching practices, and inspire students, especially young women, to pursue technical careers.
