Setting of the practice: hybrid

Description of the practice:

I have developed a set of tools to assess the fifteen competences in Entrepreneurship Competence Framework (EntreComp). These tools can be used by EntreComp trainers and teachers to assess student’s performance and progression. As well, they can be used by students for self and peer assessment. When the tools are used completely and for the 15 EntreComp competences, teachers will be able to give a full description of students’ ‘entreprenurialism’ based on EntreComp.

The challenge

Assessment of any type and any level for the learners is required. Instructors need to perform the students’ assessment, need to allow for students’ peer and self-assessment as part of the entrepreneurial teaching and learning. The assessment has to satisfy three major factors:

1.    Assessment has to be aligned with learning outcomes

2.    Assessment has to cover the eight progression levels of performance and mastery of EntreComp competences.

3.    Assessment has to be measured quantitively, where instructors and learners are able to describe the result of the assessment in numerical value in order to be able to compare result and measure progression level.

4.    Progression level is measured in each specific skill (with its learning outcomes), and for the whole competence as well.

Innovative tools:

For each skill, I have developed a tool that describes the assessment of that tool. There is a rubric with 8-10 questions that are directly related to the learning outcomes in that skill. Answering these questions will give a result of the mastery of each skill and subsequently the competence. They are simple and easy to understand and cover all levels of learning.

The teacher/trainer can use the tools to innovatively:

1.    assess their students,

2.    assess their own delivery of competence and its learning outcomes and

3.    allow for student’s self and peer assessment.

Type of activity

This is part of the entrepreneurial education approach is based on EntreComp framework. This kind of activity can be used individually and in groups, in class and online. By itself, each of the tools is implemented:

1.    in student-oriented approach,

2.    in an interactive setting,

3.    with all levels of participants, and

4.    in all learning and teaching settings.

The value of the tool for teachers/trainers:

1.    provide quantized value of the assessment for each competence in which numeric/alphabetic grades are required.

2.    provide a realization of the progression level of students in EntreComp.

3.    determine the following/next competence students need to learn.

The value of the tool for students:

1.    appreciate their level of progression

2.    determine areas that need enhancement based on the learning outcomes included.

Implementation

These tools were used with my students in “entrepreneurship and innovation” course. “Valuing Ideas” competence was assessed using this tool. Students were able to easily understand the essence of the assessment criteria and implement the tool comfortably. They were able to explain their judgement and provide positive feedback to their peers. As well, they were able to understand their progression level in this specific competence.

I have introduced the tools and result of implementation in EntreComp Café with Bantani and received positive impressions from attendees. My colleagues used the tools for some EntreComp skills in our university.

The tools were developed in Arabic . this will help the Arab Entrepreneurship audience.  They are available in PDF format upon request. Students’ responses are available upon request as well.
