"Acid rains and steel destruction" is a project that was created by linking three subjects (machine materials, chemistry, and ecology and environmental protection) with the topic of the impact of acid rain on machine materials and living beings. The aim of the project is to develop responsibility for common achievements and to examine the impact and consequences of acid rain on machine materials, living beings, and the environment. The project deals with the examination of the effects of acid rain on different materials. By researching literature and information sources and conducting laboratory research, students participate in examining the impact of acid rain on different materials such as brass, aluminum, plastic, wood, etc. In addition, students popularize this topic in the public through various promotional materials such as making infographics and video materials. The main goal of the project is to motivate students to participate in research methods and raise awareness of the environment, air pollution, and the consequences of pollution. During the project implementation, students had the opportunity to learn to work with many web tools and programs and to acquire new knowledge and skills in the field of design, promotion, and presentation of results. The project was implemented in the 2021/22 school year, and the participants were students from class I2 (30 students) of the educational profile technician for computer-controlled CNC machines at Technical School Požega, and subject teachers Dragan Kovačević - teacher of the machine group of subjects, Milena Vučićević - chemistry teacher, and Jelica Mirosavić - teacher of ecology and environmental protection. During the project work in Google Classroom, in addition to teachers and students, mentor Natasha Stojanović and researchers from the ETF Jolien van Uden and Marcus Hallside were involved in following our work.
"From the beginning, you had a clear idea and you realized it well. Like other projects, yours is an example of good collaboration among teachers from different fields, and the topic is extremely important, skillfully connected to the school curriculum. The project develops students' environmental awareness through different aspects and tackles real environmental challenges. Congratulations." - Dr. Ana Peshikan, Full Professor at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade
