ETF webinar: self-assessment of schools

Vocational student in Montenegro
VET student, Montenegro

In these challenging times providers of education &  training have been in the spotlight. They have proved their centrality not only as formal providers of education, but also as points of reference and pillars of support for communities of learners, families and authorities. This has presented additional challenges , and has given more relevance to the mechanisms of quality & improvement.

On 25 June 2020 the Forum for Quality Assurance in Vocational Education and Training (QA Forum) of the European Training Foundation (ETF) organised a webinar dedicated to self-assessment of schools- experiences of Estonia and Montenegro. T

At the webinar, Ivan Marković from the Center for Vocational Education of Montenegro and Reet Taimsoo from the Estonian Quality Agency for Higher and Vocational Education shared their countries' practices, from the legal basis to implementation, inks with external assessment and challenges to be addressed.

At the webinar, Keith Brumfitt, education & training expert, outlined some very important issues and challenges that VET providers face in their internal evaluations:

  • how can the quality of teaching be measured - can observation, the use of standards and descriptors provide a reliable way to judge the quality of classroom provision;
  • how to ensure the criteria, indicators and targets used in self assessment match those used in any external quality assurance process;
  • how to ensure the views from employers and learners are included in the self-assessment process.

Would you like to share your reflections or experience of your country ?

Is there a question you would like to ask about Estonia or Montenegro practice ?

Or a general question about self-assessment as a quality improvement tool?

Let's continue the discussion here  in the comments area !
