The recent raise of conversational Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications such as ChatGPT are raising questions among educators and education leaders: how to deal with AI-related plagiarism? Should these tools be banned from schools? Is it possible to integrate them safely and effectively in teaching settings? How to build critical knowledge on AI systems among educators, to make sure that the management of educational data is secure, privacy-proof and used for the common good?

AI tools can potentially enhance teaching, learning and assessment, but at the same time they must be handled with care, to avoid harmful consequences.

The webinar will focus on the concept of Ethical AI, that is the development, deployment and use of AI that ensures compliance with ethical norms, principles and core values. Specifically, the recent “Ethical guidelines on the use of artificial intelligence and data in teaching and learning for educators” by the European Commission will be presented and illustrated with practical examples.

At the end of the webinar, an open session will take place to collect ideas from the members of the EYF Community of Innovative Educators on new activities to be developed within the community.

The webinar will take place between 14 and 16 CEST

In my opinion, trying to stop AI is impossible: we must learn to live with it and teach our students how to use it safely. Some skills might be useless in the AI era, but new skills will be needed. With appropriate training, educators can integrate AI tools safely and effectively into teaching settings. AI can help personalize learning, provide feedback, and enhance the overall learning experience for students. I can imagine so many good uses of AI in education, such as students asking for explanations or more exercises on something they didn't understand in class, requesting practical examples of theoretical concepts, or adapting them to their level...

Totally agree Sandra, we need to empower teachers with the new skills needed to embrace this technology. I hope the webinar will help shading a light on how this can be done.

Water is essential for life, but excessive consumption can cause serious problems or even lead to death in some cases. Therefore, AI is a "necessary evil" and can benefit humanity if used within reasonable limits.
The big fear is if it enters into all daily uses and becomes the primary material. If we overuse it, this may lead to severe consequences such as human intellectual decay or the tyranny of the machine.

I like the methaphor, Mohammed. Common sense should guide the introduction of this technology, and at the same time we need to make sure that this does not create a divide between the schools/educators/learners that can benefit from this and the ones that cannot, not an easy task...

Thanks for a great webinar. Ukrainian teachers are also mastering artificial intelligence and thinking about the method of its implementation in the educational process.
