As innovation has been increasingly deemed as a key determinant in meeting global challenges in a globalized economy, the European Training Foundation (ETF) has launched an initiative to boost innovation in teaching and learning spanning academic and vocational schools. ETF aims at supporting its partner countries in the South and East Mediterranean (Lebanon, Tunisia, Morocco, Jordan, Egypt, Palestine, and Algeria) to transform education into innovative teaching and learning practices via training teachers on innovative effective practices, exchanging know-how, and sharing best practices among them.
To achieve this aim, ETF is conducting a series of webinars addressing teachers of the South and East Mediterranean to leverage the quality of their teaching and to keep them abreast with the latest educational and pedagogical development, which would open up opportunities for self-directed learning and professional learning community among those teachers
The next webinar “Unleashing Interactive Learning Techniques” will take place on December 8th with the objective of helping secondary and vocational teachers to explore innovative and interactive teaching practices that promote student teacher interactions on one side and student engagement, creativity, and problem-solving skills on another side. The webinar will share practices that develop student’s creativity and innovative thinking skills and enable them to find out solutions to authentic real-life problems.
This webinar will be relevant to secondary maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Technology and English teachers. There will be four speakers in this webinar:
Dr. Nehme Safa, Mr. Ali Mhanna, Mr. Ashraf Boussi, and Mr. Shakib Jaber.
Dr. Safa is an associate professor of Education. He will share best innovative practices developed by his students. These practices pertain to teaching the concepts of “volume” and “surface area” of three-dimensional figures where students play the role of engineers whose task is to design food cans with lowest cost and high quality. To accomplish their task, students need to employ math, science, and language arts knowledge.
Mr. Ali Mhanna is a secondary maths teacher and trainer. He will share his innovative practices of teaching geometry through designing a balloon car. Mr. Mhanna will show how students can learn from employing their science and mathematical knowledge in practical tasks.
Mr. Ashraf Boussi is a vocational electronics teacher. He will present a creative learning exercise where his students modified the programming code of an electro-mechanics paint machine to reduce cost through the installation of a sensor.
Mr. Shakib Jaber is a secondary Physics teacher. Mr. Jaber will describe an innovative technique to teach the concept of « electromagnetic oscillation » through setting up an FM station that serves his school.
The webinar will take place at 16.00 Beirut time (15.00 CET). The languages of the webinar will be Arabic and English.
