Since 2020, ETF has conducted case studies designed to investigate how global trends impact developing and transition economies, and their skills demand in specific economic sectors. A specific methodology was developed by Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini and Errequadro, with guidance from the ETF, to monitor and document the evolutions in skills demand driven by new technologies, the greening of economies and societies, and changing labour markets.

The case studies on the Future of Skills employ an innovative mix of traditional data collection tools and Big Data analytics: together, they provide an effective means of anticipating future changes in a specific sector, comparing them with the current state of sector in terms of main occupations and skills used, and adapting education and training accordingly. The methodology inaugurates a new way of researching emerging skills needs.

If you are interested to find out more about this methodology, please check out the full text or the summary .

But before you do, we would already like to ask you for your thoughts on the overall methodology combining human based and data based methodologies (desk research, data mining on patents and occupations, analysis of statistical data, focus groups, interviews) ?

We welcome also your questions as comments to this post
