The ETF Skills Lab Network of Experts in Central Asia organised a webinar on 30 November 2023 on finding the right balance between Human and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the field of education and skills development. This marked a significant move towards fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange in the region.
The webinar gathered more than 20 Skills Lab Network members from Central Asia with ETF representatives, covering topics ranging from the implications of AI in the education system to ethical considerations in its application. Each topic shed new light on crucial aspects of the evolving relationship between humans and intelligent machines.
Discussions emphasised the pivotal role AI plays in the ongoing digital transformation of the education system and the importance of AI practices in capacity building for teachers. They also highlighted the indispensable need for the right and effective use of data in this evolving landscape.
Strengthening the collaborative approach in Central Asia
As the webinar drew to a close, a consensus emerged on the necessity of initiating an ongoing dialogue among EU/ETF and Central Asia countries around AI-related matters in education and skills. This aims tolay the groundwork for the establishment of a platform or institute in the future. I believe that this would serve as an important regional hub for collaborative efforts to ensure the harmonious integration of AI and human intelligence in education and skills development.
The event underscored the significance of anticipating future skills to maintain competitiveness in the global job market. In this regard, the webinar was strongly aligned with the annual Live Event recently organised by the ETF Skills Lab Network of Experts in Turin, Italy.
Overall, the discussions held during both events highlight the urgency of fostering a collaborative and informed approach to AI in education. By continuing such dialogues, the global community can collectively navigate the complexities of the evolving relationship between human and artificial intelligence, ensuring a future where both can thrive in tandem.
We were grateful to the valuable contributions at our regional webinar from the invited speakers from the membership of the Skills Lab Network of Experts: Talant Sultanov and Aisuluu Zhamangulova (both from Kyrgyzstan), Ulzhan Ospanova (Kazakhstan) and Farhod Furkatov (Uzbekistan). I also extend our sincere appreciation to colleagues from the ETF, Fondazione Brodolini and Cowater International for their valuable inputs and technical support.
